A Bird in my house
A bird flew into my house through a broken window screen and could not get back out, so I had to knock out the window screen so it could fly out.
The second I knocked out the window screen, it flew right off!!

While our community BioBlitz will be on June 1, we decided to open up data collection for the month of May. This will allow us to document some species on the property that may not be present on the day of the BioBlitz. For example, yesterday a bobolink visited the fields-- not a common bird species! Come on over to do some birding this month. If you're good at IDing butterflies, come on down to the fields and get some pics for iNaturalist.

Thank you everyone from joining. curious to see how well this project will go.
Yesterday I reached out on the iNat forum to call for better bamboo observations.
Partakers in the conversation asked for a journal post with explicating photos, so here is a first try at this. I'll try to update this post when I'll get more pictures / infos about bamboo identification.
The call for better bamboo observations may b...
Projektin toinen viikko alkoi vapputunnelmissa!
For the first time in about as many years, three koalas have just been spotted in their natural habitat in the Eurobodalla Shire. Two were found in Kooraban National Park, in the Dignams Creek area, where it straddles the Eurobodalla and Bega shire border, with the third found in the Bodalla State Forest, not far from the new Eurobodalla dam. All three were found by drones which were funded for the project through a Commonwealth Government grant.

I am writing to invite you & yours to another insect bioblitz at Uplands Park. The Garry oak meadows are in their wildflower glory, beaconing all the pollinators and other insect visitors. And if that weren't enough of a reason - it is also World Migratory Bird Day with this year's theme being "Protect Insects, Protect Birds". So come celebrate flowers & birds as well as the amazing insect diversity with this insect bioblitz that will help...

The results are in for 2024! Thank you to everyone who participated in the City Nature Challenge in New York City and around the world!
This year, 690 cities across 51 countries participated in the City Nature Challenge and together we've beaten last year's global observation record! Thank you so much to those of you who came out on a rainy weekend to help us catalogue the biodiversity of our beautiful city of Abbotsford! I was very impressed with how many parks we were able to cover. A very special thank you to the Abbotsford Mission Nature Club and the Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition for setting up their booths in the wind and rain at Willband on Sunday morning!
So how did we do? Here are the collective global results:

Nearly a full year has passed since starting this restoration project. I'm pretty happy with the results so far! One of the first things we did was remove a giant buckthorn shrub that was growing up the side of the house and covering two windows with the help of our neighbor and his tractor. There were some existing garden beds, but they were filled with daylilies, a non-native variegated grass, and lots of hostas. Almost everything was removed from the beds except for a few hostas to se...
We are happy to announce some highlights from this year's CNC results!
First, on behalf of the SDSU Biodiversity Museum and the San Diego Natural History Museum, we are deeply honored and grateful to be part of our county's spectacular contributions to citizen science and both local and global biodiversity research and conservation efforts!
Each of you has made this year's event an impressive success! We are humbled by your enthusiastic participation, expertise, and gener...
I went to El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve in Redwood City for my last hike. The weather was clear and the temperature was 60 degrees with a small breeze which was perfect for the steep grade of the trails. I had initially only planned to go to a large sandstone, the vista point, and back on the same trail. When leaving the vista point after lunch I decided to take a new way back to see the old growth redwood I saw on the map. This added 4 miles to my planned 2 mile hike and I ended up ...
Hi everyone, thank you for joining the project and making observations. We have some super observers out there, zacpeterson and pcolarus. Pcolarus found a nest of bluebird chicks!
Hi everyone, today is the final day for our Bioblitz. I will tally up the observations later this week, but I want to thank everyone for participating this spring. We picked up a few more members of the project, so thank you to all the organizations who are getting the word out about documenting biodiversity in our towns.
Any minute now! Looks like the earliest Diana in the history was sighted around May 11 so we are getting close. I saw thistles out today so there is food to be had. Has everyone got the Diana Primary plant list that wants it? Holler if you need it!
